This course provides an overview of the rapidly changing landscape of sustainable finance, both from a policy perspective and from the perspective of an individual organization. You will learn to contextualize the market framework of sustainable finance and be able to identify the underlying market failures that require a well-designed policy framework. You will be able to link international policy within the UN Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC) process with policies at the national level.

You will understand the complexity of policy dimensions where an inconsistent mix of tools can lead to policy failure. Further, you will be able to assess the potential of a well-designed policy mix to promote sustainable finance into low-carbon technologies, while also taking into account their social implications among a diverse set of stakeholders.

Building on the existing policy and market framework, this course emphasizes a critical reflection of the challenges that lie ahead and to what extent ongoing policy initiatives are sufficient to address these and where further action is required. This will deepen and broaden your knowledge by allowing you to contextualize the rapidly changing topic of sustainable finance both now and in the future.

The topics covered are:

  • Concept of sustainable finance
  • Market and policy framework
  • Climate-related financial disclosures by organizations
  • Sustainable finance ahead
